In June 2010 I was commissioned by Après, one of Sydney’s finest French restaurants, to improve their search engine ranking placement around the theme of French restaurants in Sydney. Like many small businesses, the owners of Après had little knowledge of SEO and what it could actually do for their business and their reputation.
The search engine optimisation strategy that we agreed on consisted of on-the-page optimisation, a link-building campaign and the provision of a blog for their website. The site had an SERP #39 on Google on “French Restaurant Sydney” at the start of the campaign.

After 3 months:
- Seen #1 on Google.com.au and #2 on Google.com
- #1 on Bing Australia
- Unique visitors +37%
- Visits: +45%
- Pageviews: +103%
- Bounce rate decreased by 41%
- Time on site: +52%
The ongoing provision of relevant and keyword-rich content for the Après blog that I organised is expected to further increase the search engine ranking placements of Après on a pre-defined set of keywords, as well as increase the traffic to their website.
